Project Overview

JUMTA Group is a Nigerian business group based in Kano, with three businesses: JUMTA Export (sourcing Nigerian commodities for international buyers), JUMTA Xpress Cargo (customs clearance and freight) and JUMTA Travel (flights, hotels, visa assistance and Hajj & Umrah).

I designed and built the whole family: the brand system, the group hub at jumta.com.ng, and each business's website. This case study covers the group layer and JUMTA Travel. Export and Cargo have their own case studies.

‍

The Challenge/Problem

Each business serves a different audience:

  • Export: overseas buyers checking credentials after a cold email.
  • Cargo: Nigerian importers searching for a clearing agent.
  • Travel: people planning a trip on their phone, often on a slow connection, who would rather message on WhatsApp than fill in a form.

The challenge was to make them clearly one family, so trust in one business carries over to the others, without forcing three different audiences through one generic website. And as a small team, the group needed sites that would stay consistent over time rather than drift apart as each one was edited.

‍

The Solution

A brand family

One logo family for the Group, Export and Travel (Cargo keeps its established JX logo), and one colour per business: green for Export, amber for Cargo, blue for Travel, all on JUMTA navy and sand. The same three typefaces run across every site: Source Serif 4 for headings, Inter for text and JetBrains Mono for small labels.

One design system, four sites

The sites are separate Next.js projects but share the same foundations: colour tokens, the type scale, a 1280px container, one section-spacing scale (48 / 64 / 80px), the navigation pattern and the scroll animations. Improvements flow between them. For example, Cargo's trimmed font files (about 0.35 MB instead of 1.3 MB) and its enquiry-form setup became Travel's starting point.

The group hub

jumta.com.ng is a one-page hub with one job: send each visitor to the right business. Three cards, each in its business's colour, with a one-line description and a direct link, then the group's story and approach. There is no CMS: the copy lives in a single file, because a hub that rarely changes doesn't need one.

JUMTA Travel: built for phones and WhatsApp

Travel is an enquiry-first site: no bookings, payments or accounts, just a clear way to ask.

  • WhatsApp first: a "Chat on WhatsApp" button in the hero and a floating button on every page, with a pre-written message that names the service.
  • A short enquiry form: only name and phone are required. Each service's "Enquire" button opens the form with that service selected, and Hajj & Umrah adds its own consent tick-box. Enquiries are sent by email through Resend, with spam protection.
  • A hero drawn in CSS, not JavaScript: flight routes draw out from Kano and a plane passes three labels (Enquiry, Confirmed, Arranged), the same steps as the enquiry process. CSS animation starts with the first paint, where a JavaScript version would stay blank on a slow connection until its script arrived. Visitors who prefer reduced motion see the finished drawing.
  • Careful, honest wording: every business fact on the site is recorded in a claims register with its source. There are no badges, partner names, prices or packages the business hasn't confirmed.
  • Strict design tokens: every colour, size and spacing value is a token, and a check script rejects one-off values. When the design is refined in Figma, only the tokens need to change.

‍

The Result

JUMTA's businesses now present as one family: the same quality bar, the same navigation and the same visual language, each with its own colour and voice. The group hub routes visitors in one click. After a speed pass (trimmed fonts, and the first screen shown without waiting for the animation code), Google's PageSpeed Insights scores it 94 on mobile and 100 on desktop (14 October 2026), with 100 for accessibility, best practices and SEO and no layout shift. The page weighs about 0.5 MB, down from 1.6 MB.

JUMTA Travel is built and has passed its owner checks on real phones. It is waiting on a final design pass in Figma before it replaces the "Coming soon" page at travel.jumta.com.ng.
